Lady Gaga and the New Normal – Part 2

Posted by Marty Stanley on March 25, 2010

Lady Gaga transforms another New Normal conversation: Safe sex.

Cyndi Lauper and Gaga have teamed up with MAC cosmetic’s AIDS campaign, which raised over $160 million to bring awareness about the disease to women around the world.

During a recent Good Morning America interview, George Stephanopoulos was “gaga over Gaga”. He wanted to talk about her rise to fame and meeting Queen Elizabeth.

Taking Responsibility

Her response was that she was “blessed to have the responsibility” to bring awareness of AIDS to women, what MAC cosmetics was doing to support it and that’s why she was there – not to talk about her celebrity status.

Take that George!

Now that’s a New Normal Conversation!

Gaga doesn’t look the type to promote safe sex. But she is. Big time…in a way that no one has before.  And people are listening.

She also understands what it means to be an authentic spokesperson.  She was on GMA on behalf of MAC cosmetics and she wanted to make sure people knew the good work that MAC is doing to support the cause.

The New Normal is about taking responsibility and shape-shifting the conversations in a way that people will listen and pay attention.  In this case, Lady Gaga was passionate about the cause and her sponsor.  She wasn’t going to be swayed by hype or flattery and as a result her message was authentic and powerful.

New Normal conversations are deliberate and intentional. The messages are clear and consistent.

If you’re not getting the results you want in your life or in your organization… listen to your conversations. What do you hear? Are they intentional, clear and consistent?
