I intend to activate my breath to bring about awareness, calm and being closer to the divine. I want to practice breathing (pranayama) even if for 5 minutes a day, everyday. My hope is that alone can shift a whole lot in my life and how I handle the day-to-day stressors and joys.

To be more intentional - that is a basic "intention" for 2012. (This past year has been a "treading water" type year.) And to be satisfied with starting small (being more realistic). Accomplishing one-to-three smaller, but significant, intentions will be more benficial for me than trying to take on something that intimidates me from the get-go! So, step one, is identifying some options, which I've already begun. Step two is selecting the finalist(s). Step three is some strategies for being prepared to handle my biggest anticipated obstacles to success with my intentions. And step 4 is a suitable "reward" for my success (in addition the achieving the success itself, of course). Step 4 is just something that seems to work well for me, so I plan to use it!

One of my intentions for 2012 is to "Shake It Up." That's my theme for the year - Shake It Up in my workouts, in my work and how I play. No more status quo! Down With Complacency! Shake it up, baby!

We often counsel job-seekers to be very careful in their menu or restaurant selections. It's pretty tough to overcome something green in your teeth!

Marty, what a great example of how to "read" people. Many have been so dumbed down to do the right thing that they are scared to show their real self. In that situation I can understand why the man wouldn't want to do the crazy thing with the ketchup. Stretch, get yourself out of that "box" that constricts you. There's a wonderful world out there.

Good one Marty!

As a guy who's made a business out of reading the in-obvious clues people give off, I really liked the ketchup lesson... lots of ways to learn stuff about others when we notice the the little stuff.

Great examples, Marty. And so true, behaviors communicate the real message. Nicely done.

Brody - you're right - weighing the opportunity costs is important. Some volunteer commitments are good for business, some are good for personal or professional development and some are "good for the soul." A good rule of thumb is: If you're not satisfied with your level of contribution or you're not getting the ROI in terms of business or personal satisfaction, then re-assess the commitment. Be "all -in!"

Yes! Making the decision to drop all of my board positions was tough and I hated having some of those conversations, but I "got over it" quickly when I realized the time that I got back...

I now am happy to take on "advisory" roles in the form of a phone call every now and then when they need some guidance.

Most importantly, I think it's important to weigh the oppportunity cost of some of your commitments. If one such commitment stands out as the most important to the success of your business, then drop all the rest and focus on being "all in" on that one (as Kelly would say).

Good comments, Marty. There's nothing nicer than enjoying your family for the holidays. There also are lots of things that "worry" people and your suggestions are solid. Thanks. -Chuc
